PLANETROMEO is a great place to meet friends, make dates, and even find love. At the same time, not every person with a profile wants the same things you do. And, we encourage you always to use caution and common sense when dating or interacting with people online in general. Since we don’t see ourselves as the best judges of your morality, we won’t tell our Romeos how to live their lives. That’s why we provide dating tips and useful information so you can make the best choices for you.
Financial & Personal Information
Never share personal or financial information, or your identification numbers, such as a social security number, with online acquaintances. Never send money or credit card details to people you have met online or that you don’t know very well.
Secure your login information (Access data)
Never give out your password. Make sure that you store all of your access information in a secure place. Your access data is your account information, which includes the email address connected to your PLANETROMEO profile and your password. You need this information for certain requests, like changing your password and your email address.
About your location
Although we all like to see how close by other users are, it’s sometimes not a good idea to show your real location publicly – e.g., at work, places where it is punishable or illegal to be gay, places where there is an intolerance towards gay culture or any place you feel uncomfortable. That’s why we let you choose between GPS to locate your actual position or to freely select a location somewhere else. When you see the small needle-shaped GPS location icon next to the distance, this means he’s using GPS which gives his actual location.
Scammers and fakers – Protect yourself from fraud
Like every big dating platform, not only people with good intentions join our community. Please keep your eyes open and don’t believe everything. Does a profile only have photos of a porn actor? Do you only get to date this super hot guy if you register with a porn site first? A ‘serious and honest’ hot man from very far away wants to visit and marry you right away? Did you become a millionaire in the ‘PlanetRomeo Lottery’? If it looks too good to be true, it probably is!
We use human, as well as artificial intelligence (e.g., smart software) to remove these malicious profiles daily. However, if you still come across any profile or message that looks fake to you, simply hit the button and report it. Our system is smart, one wrong report won’t delete a Romeo but the more reports we get, the faster we can react.
Avoid uncomfortable situations
It’s possible that another user will rub you the wrong way, become irritating, or perhaps you just get a feeling that things aren’t right. Well, consider this:
Always be cautious, especially with new profiles. Keep an eye on the ‘known’ status (shown in every profile).
If you find a user annoying or bothersome, then you can block him. [See our FAQ]
Feel free to question a potential date. The only way to make an informed decision is if you are informed. So, ask if you want to know. If you’re concerned about being exposed to something, please take the necessary precautions. Of course, it’s also okay to ask him about his HIV or other STI statuses, but you can never be 100% sure.
Before your date
Meeting up for the first time is always exciting. Is he really that hot guy you drooled over when chatting with him? We hope so, but please keep a few things in mind:
- When it becomes more serious and you’re still in doubt, have a Skype call.
- Trust your gut feeling. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t meet up.
- Sometimes it’s better to plan your first meeting in a public place.
- Or tell a friend where you’re going, when you plan to be back and how they can reach you.
During your date
What you do or don’t do when it comes to sex is your very own private decision. Take it seriously and stick to it, even in the heat of the moment when you’re tempted by others. It’s your health, it’s your life. Nobody can guarantee that they’re free from sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
- If you host, don’t leave anything of value lying around.
- Don’t feel forced to do anything you feel uncomfortable with.
- Be brave and leave whenever you want.
- Don’t leave your drink unattended.
After your date
After your date you might have all types of memories and ideas in you head about the night before. If you feel unsure about anything ask you yourself:
- “What do I remember? Do I have concerns?”
- “Did the condom break? Did I have unprotected sex?” If you really want to be sure, get tested. For example, there is the European Test Finder and in the U.S. you can use the CDC GetTested link or google to find a testing facility near you.
- “How do I feel?” Are you worried that you may have been drugged?
