YouTuber Davey Wavey moves into adult films. This established internet personality and LGBT+ activist speaks to us about his biggest adventure yet, Himeros.tv. It’s a new website that produces educational sex videos and demonstrates sensual experiences that are ‘better than porn.’ Here’s our Q+A with Davey to find out more about this sexy project.

Hey Davey, can you tell me a little bit about what you do?

“For more than ten years, I’ve been creating LGBT+ themed videos on YouTube and Facebook that have reached hundreds of millions of people all over the world. The content has grown and evolved with me, and my most recent project is Himeros.tv.”

What is Himeros.tv?

“It’s an erotic website to enhance the experience of sex and sexuality for gay men, through exploration, connection, and ecstasy. We do that primarily through juicy, hot and totally explicit videos. It’s like porn, but better.”

For the Love of Porn

How is it better than porn? And how is it different from porn?

“I’ll be the first to admit that I love porn. It’s hot, and I enjoy it as much as the next guy. But the goal of porn is to arouse you and make you ejaculate. Porn is about getting you off. The content on Himeros.tv is also hot, but with a different intent. Instead of just getting you off, it’s also about getting you in. In touch with your body. In touch with pleasure. In touch with your partner or partners. It’s a very different experience.”

New Job, New Challenges

What is your role? Director, cameraman, or the full production guy behind the scenes?

“I co-create each video with a talented team of professionals including tantric coaches, queer directors and crew, and some of the best models in the industry. My role is producing the content and ensuring that we’re upholding the mission and values of Himeros.tv. It’s a lot to manage, but it’s been the most exciting and purposeful project of my life.”

Best Supporting Actor

Will you go the whole way and produce videos of you and other guys having sex?

“I get asked that question a lot. I don’t view me being fully naked or having sex on camera as some sort of finish line that I’m working towards. While I enjoy playing supportive roles in some of the videos, the reality is that there are plenty of men better suited than myself to demonstrate ecstatic sexual connections on camera. When and where it feels right, I’ll continue to make appearances in the videos – and I like the idea of being a part of this journey with my audience.”

The Crew

Are the other members of the team sex actors? Volunteers? Teachers?

“We don’t work with any actors. We’re more interested in authenticity than acting. When we film, we want our models to be turned on by their partner and the situation they’re demonstrating. If we’re filming a foot fetish video, for example, then both models are totally turned on by the experience. I think that comes across on camera, and the audience can feel the honesty.”

“Beyond the models, our directors play an active role in shaping the content. We encourage creativity and taking risks. We like to think outside the box and do our best to give each director artistic license.”

“And yes, we also work with different sex coaches and tantric gurus. They provide the foundation and framework for each video concept. A lot of energy and love goes into each video!”

Regular Porn

What’s wrong with sex in regular gay porn?

“I wouldn’t say that there is something inherently wrong with gay porn. What I will say is that there’s an opportunity to infuse gay porn with concepts, wisdom, and truths that enhance our experience of sex and sexuality.”

“For example, I’d love for gay porn to show that youth isn’t the only currency of value in our community – that older gay men offer wisdom, experience and yes, beauty. To that end, we recently filmed a gorgeous video featuring an 83 year-old man.”

“And also, that sex isn’t just about sucking and fucking. There are a million ways to be intimate and connect with another man. It’s not all about penetration, even though we rarely see anything else.”

Are you also trying to tackle shame?

“As someone who grew up Catholic, I understand shame and guilt and its effect on one’s understanding of their sexuality. And whatever shame and guilt are, it’s my intention to make Himeros.tv the opposite of that. I don’t want to say what we’re against; I want to say what we are for. When expressing this conundrum to one of our tantric coaches, he helped me find the right word: Joy. Himeros.tv envisions a world where all gay men experience sex and sexuality with joy.”

Moving into Adult Films
