And What? Queer Arts Festival

And What? Queer. Arts. Festival. is a platform to show the work of Queer and LGBTQIA+ artists, makers and producers, to encourage different spaces for artistic conversation, open doors to venues and provide new experiences for its audiences. The festival’s official dates are Sep 29th – Oct 21st. There is an aftershock event planned to follow the festival, it’s a Bruce LaBruce exhibition opening, just as an extra treat!

PLANETROMEO Top 3

There’s a lot of fabulous queer content coming to this year’s And What? festival so we’ve highlighted these performances as out top three must see events.

Medea, Written in Rage

Acclaimed theatre director Neil Bartlett brings his insight and magic to the ancient tale of Medea. Working with Jean René Lemoine’s text originally composed in French, this piece reimagines what Medea would have said if no one judged her. Medea is brought to life by François Testory who transcends gender to convey the empathy of a woman scorned, a child killer and the ultimate outsider. Medea, Written in Rage is a must see.

B*ttmunch / Naked Boys Reading

Naked Boys Reading (NBR) is the perfect intimate live event: a literary salon featuring in-the-buff readings by local beefcakes, bears, twinks, otters, butch femmes, sissy sluts, boys next door with an exhibitionist streak and lovers of naturism with a well-endowed library.

Bruce LaBruce: The Haus of Bruce LaBruce

Canadian underground adult film director, photographer, writer and queer provocateur, Bruce LaBruce (Hustler White, The Raspberry Reich, Otto; or, Up With Dead People, L.A. Zombie) brings an exhibition of his work to London. Technically its after the And What? Queer Arts Festival, so its being billed as an aftershock, The Haus of Bruce LaBruce.

World Premieres

The And What? programme is almost entirely made up of world premieres and/or London firsts, including brand new: theatre, music, live art, club nights, contemporary drag, youth engagement projects , exhibitions, circus, cabaret and some really out-there ‘experiences’

Any Instant Whatsoever / Alexander Geist
