Cologne Pride Guide 2018
Cologne Pride is one of the largest parties in Europe. It’s attended in huge numbers each year, and the full program runs over a two-week period with lots of inclusive and diverse celebrations. The main party and parade is from Friday July 6th to Monday July 9th. If you’re from outside Germany or the Benelux region, you may not know a lot about this huge gay celebration; let us fill you in on the dealio. Oh, and we have tickets to give away for Sexy Pride Land. You can enter at the bottom – of this page.
Important Note: Many German cities refer to Pride as Christopher Street Day (CSD). Stonewall, the bar where Pride began, is on Christopher Street in New York. Cologne Pride was originally called CSD Cologne and some of their events still use this title.
Cologne’s gay and lesbian community is inviting visitors to come to Cologne Pride from now to July 8th. The motto of this year’s event will be “Coming Out in YOUR Style”. In addition to countless political, cultural and party events, two elements will form the core of ColognePride: the CSD street festival in the city center, and the big CSD demonstration.
Cologne Pride Agenda
The CSD street festival from July 6th thru 8th, is a colorful party featuring flamboyant performances, rousing speeches, and emotional highlights. At Cologne Pride you’ll find three big stages: Main stage | Politur stage | VODAFONE dance stage. Special guests include Eurovision winners, Netta, and Conchita Wurst. The cast of Orange is The New Black will also be attending this year’s Cologne Pride, and promising young singer, Lukas Rieger.
The annual Candlelight Against Forgetting event will be held at 11PM on July 7th, to commemorate the men and women who have died of HIV and AIDS.
Demonstration for Diversity
The Demonstration for Diversity will begin at 12 noon on July 8th, on the Deutzer Brücke, which offers a panoramic view of Cologne’s historic Old Town. Since 1991, Cologne Pride has advocated for the legal and social acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersexual and transgender individuals.
