Amanda Lepore, The Queen of New York, has released her memoir, Doll Parts, and it’s filled with gorgeous images from the world’s most iconic photographers. All eyes on Amanda, of course. The book explores her life’s major transitions from boy to girl, from New Jersey to New York and from go-go dancer to Icon. We have two copies up for grabs; to enter scroll down.
“A lot of people think that I’m addicted to plastic surgery. But the truth is, if I’m addicted to anything, it’s beauty. If you happen to be young and transgender, then you’re used to people being hateful towards you when all you want to do is exist. Through all the insanity in my life, there was only one thing I could control: myself. On the outside, obviously, but on the inside too. I focused on not letting other people’s opinions have any effect on me whatsoever, and that’s how I’ve lived my life ever since.” – Amanda
From Teen to Dominatrix
The book details her unbelievable story of transitioning at age seventeen. Shortly after that, Lepore shed a troubled youth, escaped an abusive marriage, and recreated herself in the image of vintage bombshell Hollywood–glamour. She worked as a dominatrix and performed at legendary NYC club haunts like The Limelight. But, it was when pop culture visionary David LaChapelle walked into her life that she again transitioned, this time from a beautiful nightlife denizen, to an icon. LaChapelle’s ingenious photographs and mentorship made Lepore an international star.
Lepore has spent years becoming the woman she’s always wanted to be, and in “Doll Parts” her effervescent and revealing memoir, she takes off the makeup, peels back the silicone, and reveals to the world the woman she really is – her heartbreak, her desires, her endurance and of course, her beauty secrets!
